Happy New Year - Welcome to '12 / December Cruise

Happy New Year to all! I've got a few New Year's resolutions, we'll see if I can keep them. Hope everyone had a great and safe holiday celebration.

---

Things to watch in the next few months are:
1) The status of whether or not ZZ will play the Houston Rodeo
2) If any official singles from the new album will be released
3) If promotional activity actually takes place (remember the lack of attention for Mescalero?)
4) When and where ZZ will play this year

It is very exciting indeed that it appears the new album will finally be released. Billy often regurgitates the line "a mix of Tres Hombres and Eliminator" but I'm not really looking for the new record to sound like any of the old ones. ZZ is so great because they have always treaded new ground, being willing to attempt different sounds and structures, rather than be a formula band. Their studio work is an amazing contrast to the staleness and mundane nature of their live performances. Mescalero, the newest thing we have, featured a great assortment and variety of different songs, which jelled together to make it one of the group's top five (in my opinion). Maybe the new album will push it to the number 6 spot - I'm confident I'm not the only one ready to find out.

So has anyone heard anything about the group's cruise performances last month? I read one account where a person stated they did two shows, which were great; one show however had to be cut short due to a power failure. If anyone has any information on where photos, details, set lists or audio/video of the concerts can be found please let us know. Thanks!

  1. The Rodeo site promises a complete schedule in January. If Top does the Rodeo, I’m guessing it will be Friday, 16 March. But, now, I might be mistaken…

This album should be well promoted considering all of the interviews that BFG has been doing so far. The band will not have to rely on RCA, who seemed to have lost interest after Antenna.

Last year, the first tour dates for May and June came out fairly early (Feb. or March), but they kept adding more and more and more dates throughout the summer. There were a handful of “ZZ only” shows last year – hopefully they do less double billing on the next tour.

For the new album, a diverse group of songs (like Mescalero) would be welcome. Something in the Rhythmeen-XXX style would be cool, too. A mixture of Tres Hombres and Eliminator would probably result in something off of Tejas or El Loco – also not a bad thing. Or maybe the album will feature something completely different.

There isn’t much on the Fan Club site about the cruise. A couple of posters said it was a great time, but not much else.
