Billy is on the cover of the new (October 2012) issue of Guitar World with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. They’re called “Blues Brothers”. This was unexpected as he was featured in the January 2012 issue as Santa Claus (Wreck the Halls). There are lots of pix of Billy and Dan showing off several unique guitars. My favorite is Billy’s Dixie Beer single pickup Gibson on the cover.
There’s lots of namedropping about blues greats (Hound Dog Taylor!). Billy and Dan share a lot of common ground – I
won’t spoil the article here. Dan and
Billy do disagree about the awesomeness of British Blues players (Billy for,
Dan against). There’s also a nice
sidebar about Billy and Dan’s love for Lightning Hopkins.
And, the issue has an excerpt from Buddy Guy’s upcoming autobiography
“When I Left Home” about his introduction to Chicago Blues. The excerpt shows how Buddy met greats Otis
Rush and “The Mud”, Muddy Waters. Can’t
wait to read that book!
